MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine area youth will benefit from a new wellness project that will provide easy access to healthy, nutritious food through meal programs, in-school food pantries and other youth-related nutrition support programs.
This important community effort is the inaugural project for KNG Gives — a social impact program designed to assist communities, customers, employees, and their families in the Kent Nutrition Group trade area. Kent Nutrition Group is a division of Kent Corporation, a family-owned company, headquartered in Muscatine, IA.
“KNG Gives allows us to make a positive difference in people’s lives by giving back to those communities where we live and do business,” said Mark Krieger, vice president, marketing for Kent Nutrition Group. “Thanks to our partnership with Nutra Blend, our first KNG Gives project will educate kids and families on the importance of a nutritious diet and positively impact areas that have helped us grow to be the company we are today.”
This $40,000 Kent Nutrition Group (KNG) fund is made possible through a partnership with Nutra Blend, a key strategic supplier for KNG. “We greatly appreciate Nutra Blend and their support to establish this fund to help fight an important cause — childhood hunger,” said Julie Rose, senior buyer, Kent Corporation. “With this effort, we hope to help children and families in Muscatine and Louisa counties attain necessary daily nutrients that kids need to grow and be healthy.”
The Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine will administer this new program. Details about this grant program will soon be made available through the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine. Plans are for grants to begin projects in the fall so that Muscatine and Louisa county youth can start benefiting from this effort.
“Through our partnership with KNG Gives, nonprofit organizations will have the opportunity to apply for grants designed to supplement and enhance the nutrition of our area children,” said Shelly Maharry, associate director for the Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine. “We are fortunate to have local businesses who want to support charitable causes and we are honored to help make their charitable goals a reality.” To learn more about applying for youth nutrition grants from the KNG Gives fund, please visit the Community Foundation’s website at www.muscatinecommunityfoundation.org or call 563-264-3863.
