MUSCATINE, Iowa (June 24, 2019) — Employees of Kent Corporation, an Iowa-based company, volunteered their time and efforts on Friday, June 21 to help clean up the Mississippi Riverfront in Muscatine, after more than three months of flooding.
“Muscatine is our home. We have been here for decades and are committed to being good stewards of the community, especially in its time of need,” said Carol Reynolds, Corporate Spokesperson for Kent Corporation. “We are proud to help our community recover and rebuild in this way.”
Riverside Park, located along the Mississippi Riverfront in downtown Muscatine, was submerged by floodwaters for more than 95 days, leaving behind piles of sediment and trash.
Nearly 100 Kent employees signed up to participate in the cleanup, though the afternoon group could not participate because of severe weather. Nonetheless, a morning crew of nearly 50 volunteers worked with about a dozen staff from the City of Muscatine Parks and Recreation Department to sanitize Pearl City Station and the Riverview Center, rake and pick up mounds of driftwood, as well as mulch trees and clear walkways.
“Kent has always been a big supporter of the City of Muscatine,” said Muscatine Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Nick Gow. “It is great to have Kent’s employees help today.”
Kent Corporation prioritizes helping the Muscatine by ensuring safety for residents and visitors as well as the cleanliness of the city. The corporation has a long, cherished tradition of actively participating in the Muscatine community, which is why Kent employees devoted their time to the cleanup efforts today.
