MUSCATINE, Iowa (January 29, 2020) — Kent Corporation’s CEO, Gage Kent, attended the signing of the United States-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) trade agreement in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 as a guest of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.

Across the U.S., more than 43,000 manufacturers, employing two million Americans, export to these neighboring countries to the north and south. Kent Corporation has been an active proponent of the USMCA and supports those who have worked hard on behalf of producers, particularly those in Border States, the upper Midwest and New England area to help open important markets to their products.

“With the signing of the USMCA, farmers, meat, milk and egg producers and manufacturers will see new opportunities for growth and prosperity,” said Gage Kent, Chairman and CEO of Kent Corporation. “It is a modernized and balanced trade agreement between the United States, Canada and Mexico. This constructive and forward-looking agreement ensures America’s consumers, farmers, manufacturers, innovators, and service providers will have a new economic platform upon which to build a great future. President Trump, his administration and Congress are to be congratulated on putting forward this historic agreement.”

“It was exciting to be in Washington D.C. to witness President Trump sign the modernized USMCA,” said Secretary Naig. “U.S. farmers are benefiting from the Trump administration’s efforts to renegotiate unbalanced trade agreements. Under the new USMCA, Iowa farmers will gain greater access to our two largest export markets, which is great news heading into the 2020 planting season.”

Combined, Canada and Mexico purchase nearly half of U.S. global manufacturing goods including food and beverages, agriculture, machinery, and more. According to data from the National Association of Manufacturers, the U.S. exports more than $5.5 billion to Canada and Mexico. Additionally, Canada and Mexico represent Iowa’s closest trading partners, ranking as the top two destinations for exports, keeping the state globally competitive.

Mr. Kent is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Manufacturers. With approximately 2,000 employees, Kent Corporation sees the signing of this agreement as a major win for the American worker.
