MUSCATINE, Iowa (May 6, 2019) – Employees of Grain Processing Corporation (GPC) and Kent Pet Group (KPG), subsidiary companies of Kent Corporation, recently combined to achieve one million safe work hours without a workplace accident at their Muscatine manufacturing location.
For the second time in two years, Kent employees successfully reached this workplace safety milestone. To achieve this one million hours landmark, a single person would have to work a standard 40-hour work week, 52 weeks a year for more than 480 years, accident free. The team of 565 employees worked consistently safe for nearly nine months to achieve this milestone.
“Safety has long been a core value at Grain Processing Corporation and Kent Pet Group,” said Brian Peters, Vice President and Plant Manager for GPC. “We are committed to making the million hour milestone a standard to be achieved repeatedly.”
Following safety practices in the workplace allowed employees to successfully maintain their production rates throughout the year. The company has made significant combined efforts to ensure a high standard of safety is maintained.
“We are extremely proud of our team for reaching this milestone,” said Kevin Garrison, Safety Director for GPC. “Our goal now is to use the momentum gained to remain incident free and maintain our successful production rates.”
Employees were treated to a plant-wide appreciation meal to recognize and celebrate the company’s achievement and their commitment to safety.
