MUSCATINE, Iowa—Harold L. Kent, a retired real-estate developer, philanthropist, and longtime member of the Kent Corporation Board of Directors passed away on Thursday, January 23. He was 89 years old.
Harold Kent and his brother James H. Kent were sons of Gage Allison Kent, founder of Kent Feeds, Inc., now known as Kent Corporation of Muscatine, Iowa. James H. Kent passed in 2012 after retiring as an executive of Kent Corporation for over 65 years.
Harold Kent grew up in Indianola, Iowa, graduated from Simpson College in Indianola, and worked for his father in Muscatine and then in Tampa, Florida. Since the early 1950’s, Harold had diverse business interests including orange groves, real estate development, and Christian outreach through Galcom International, which he founded in 1985.
Harold served as a Board member of Kent Corporation of Muscatine, Iowa for 62 years, resigning in 2013.
Harold and his wife JoAnn have four children: Steve Kent (Deceased), Michael (Gail) Kent of Franklin, NC, Patty (Dave) Walker and Susan (Robert) Nelson both of Lutz, Florida.
Harold L. Kent was a devoted husband and father, a good businessman, and shared his Christian faith with others throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and all whom he touched.
