Drive to Feed Kids Project

(MUSCATINE, Iowa) – To combat the hunger that thousands of children in the Muscatine area face every day, Kent Corporation is utilizing a program created by their suppliers to sponsor the “Drive to Feed Kids” project in Muscatine County and West Liberty.

This collaboration will partner with Bags of Blessings, an existing program that gives food-insecure children a backpack of nutritious food and meals to take home each weekend to their families.

A portion of each purchase Kent Corporation makes from suppliers Nutra Blend and Elanco, is donated to the Bags of Blessing projects. In addition, Kent Corporation is matching dollar to dollar the generous contribution made by the West Liberty Lions Club. The West Liberty Lions Club has held many fundraisers in the community to support local groups and activities. Kent Corporation and the West Liberty Lions Club chose this partnership to address the often overlooked hunger issue in Muscatine County.

For years, Missouri-based Nutra Blend has been partnering with companies nation-wide on projects similar to the one in Muscatine, including a snack pack program in Oregon and a summer kitchen in Missouri. “Drive to Feed Kids” goal is to provide 7 million meals this year across the country to those in need.

In Muscatine, 5,000 people face food insecurity today, half of which are children. It has been found that students who lack proper nutrition often struggle to succeed in the classroom. Bags of Blessings is just one effort to combat the serious issue of food insecurity and hunger.

Local residents are encouraged to help the cause by getting in touch with local food banks and contributing to the Muscatine and West Liberty project.
